Why Thermal Fillers

The filler decides thermal performance

As AI chips, electric vehicles, power electronics and 5G/6G equipment become denser, the heat generated per unit area keeps rising. The performance of a thermal interface material (TIM), which lowers thermal resistance between a heat source and a heat sink, depends on the thermal conductivity and loading of the filler mixed into the resin.

Spherical alumina, today's mainstream filler, is limited to 20–30 W/mK. Magnesia is sensitive to moisture, and aluminum nitride costs 3–20 times more than alumina.

Our core-shell filler combines a thermally conductive metal core that carries heat with an insulating ceramic shell, delivering high thermal conductivity and electrical insulation in a single particle. It drops into existing TIM processes.

Thermal conductivity of conventional fillers

Intrinsic filler conductivity range, W/mK

Our core-shell filler uses a metal core to go beyond the conductivity limits of conventional ceramic fillers. Detailed specifications are provided with a quote.

Applications

Conductive additive for electrodes

Cathode additive for lithium and magnesium batteries; electrode additive for fuel cells, capacitors and flow batteries. Improves electron transport and active area.

Surface treatment of thermal fillers

Coating for alumina, copper, magnesia and other fillers. Enables higher filler loading and better heat transfer between fillers.

Thin-film coating

Sub-1 µm coatings on Al and Cu foils; hydrophilic coating for stainless steel and titanium plates. Prevents oxidation and lowers interfacial resistance.

GRAPHENE-COATED SPHERICAL FILLERS FOR TIM

Graphene-Coated Thermal Fillers

Graphene surface coating for thermally conductive spherical fillers

A thin graphene coating on micron-sized spherical ceramic fillers improves their compatibility with polymer resins. More filler fits at the same viscosity, raising the thermal conductivity of thermal pads, gap fillers and thermal grease.

HIGH-κ CORE-SHELL THERMAL FILLER

High-κ Core-Shell Thermal Fillers

Metal-core conductivity and ceramic-shell insulation in one particle

A thermally conductive metal core forms the heat path, while an insulating ceramic shell prevents electrical contact between particles. The manufacturing technology is protected by our registered patents. It replaces existing fillers without changing your resin mixing, forming or curing process.

Conductive metal coreFast heat path
Insulating ceramic shellKeeps electrical insulation
High-κConductivity

Thermal conductivity. A highly conductive metal core forms the heat path, aiming beyond the limits of conventional ceramic fillers.

InsulatedInsulation

Insulation. The ceramic shell prevents electrical contact between particles, keeping the insulation that TIM requires.

1/10Cost vs. AlN

Cost. Readily available raw materials give a cost structure below 1/10 of aluminum nitride and 1/5 of magnesia.

Drop-inProcess fit

Drop-in. Replaces existing fillers without equipment changes, offering an alternative to imported fillers.
